Instructions for Use:
Input Voltage (VIN):
- Ensure the input voltage is within the range of 2.7V to 40V.
- Avoid exceeding the maximum input voltage to prevent damage to the device.
Output Voltage (VOUT):
- The LT1129IST-5.0 provides a fixed output voltage of 5.0V.
- No external resistors are needed to set the output voltage.
Output Current (IOUT):
- The device can supply up to 1.0A of continuous current.
- Ensure that the load does not exceed this limit to avoid overheating or damage.
Quiescent Current (IQ):
- The quiescent current is typically 3.0mA at 12V input and 5V output.
- This current is drawn by the regulator itself and is independent of the load.
Dropout Voltage (VDROPOUT):
- The dropout voltage is typically 0.5V when the output current is 1.0A and the input voltage is 5.5V.
- Ensure that the input voltage is at least 0.5V higher than the output voltage to maintain regulation.
Load Regulation:
- The load regulation is typically 0.1% over the load range from 0mA to 1.0A.
- This indicates the stability of the output voltage with varying loads.
Line Regulation:
- The line regulation is typically 0.1% over the input voltage range from 4.5V to 40V.
- This indicates the stability of the output voltage with varying input voltages.
Thermal Shutdown (TSD):
- The device will shut down if the junction temperature exceeds 160°C.
- Ensure adequate heat sinking to prevent thermal shutdown.
Operating Temperature (TOPR):
- The operating temperature range is from -40°C to 125°C.
- Ensure that the device operates within this range to avoid performance degradation or failure.
Storage Temperature (TSTG):
- The storage temperature range is from -65°C to 150°C.
- Store the device in a dry environment within this temperature range to prevent damage.
Additional Notes:
Capacitors:
- Use appropriate input and output capacitors to ensure stability and reduce ripple.
- Recommended values are typically 1μF to 10μF ceramic capacitors for both input and output.
PCB Layout:
- Ensure proper PCB layout to minimize noise and improve thermal performance.
- Place the input and output capacitors as close as possible to the regulator.
Heat Sinking:
- For high current applications, consider using a heatsink to dissipate heat effectively.
- The thermal resistance (θJA) of the device should be considered in the design.
By following these guidelines, you can ensure reliable operation of the LT1129IST-5.0 in your application.
