YMF262-M is a Yamaha OPL3 sound chip produced in SOP-24 package. It is an improved version of OPL2 with 3-channel FM synthesis, 4-channel FM synthesis, 8 four-operator channels, 6 three-operator channels and 6 two-operator channels. This chip also features 4-operator effects, 32-voice polyphony, 4-channel stereo and 8-bit single-cycle digital sampling for MIDI and WAV playback. The YMF262-M is suitable for various applications, most notably for driving sound cards and personal computers. It is also used in arcade machines, keyboards, synthesizers, and other consumer products.
