HC158 Instructions

  1. Pin Configuration:

    • Pin 1 (A0): Address input 0
    • Pin 2 (A1): Address input 1
    • Pin 3 (A2): Address input 2
    • Pin 4 (GND): Ground
    • Pin 5 (Y0): Output 0
    • Pin 6 (Y1): Output 1
    • Pin 7 (Y2): Output 2
    • Pin 8 (Y3): Output 3
    • Pin 9 (Y4): Output 4
    • Pin 10 (Y5): Output 5
    • Pin 11 (Y6): Output 6
    • Pin 12 (Y7): Output 7
    • Pin 13 (E): Enable (active low)
    • Pin 14 (VCC): Positive supply voltage
  2. Functionality:

    • The HC158 is a 1-of-8 data selector/multiplexer that allows one of eight input signals to be selected based on the address inputs A0, A1, and A2.
    • The enable pin (E) must be low for the device to operate. If E is high, all outputs are high impedance.
    • The output corresponding to the binary value of the address inputs is selected and driven to the output level (high or low).
  3. Addressing:

    • A0, A1, A2 determine which of the eight outputs (Y0 to Y7) is selected.
    • For example, if A0 = 0, A1 = 1, and A2 = 0, then Y2 is selected.
  4. Power Supply:

    • Connect VCC to +5V and GND to ground.
    • Ensure that the power supply is stable and within the specified range to avoid damage to the device.
  5. Input and Output Levels:

    • Inputs should be within the specified VIL and VIH levels.
    • Outputs will be either high (VOH) or low (VOL) depending on the selected input.
  6. Propagation Delay:

    • The time delay between a change in the address inputs and the corresponding change in the output is given by tpd.
  7. Handling:

    • Handle the device with care to avoid static discharge, which can damage the internal circuits.
    • Store the device in a dry, cool place when not in use.

By following these instructions, you can effectively use the HC158 in your digital circuits.
