Instructions for Use:
Circuit Configuration:
- Connect the input voltage to the IN pin.
- Connect the output voltage to the OUT pin.
- Ground the GND pin.
Capacitors:
- Place a 1μF ceramic capacitor between the IN pin and ground for input filtering.
- Place a 1μF ceramic capacitor between the OUT pin and ground for output stability.
Heat Dissipation:
- Ensure adequate heat sinking if operating at high current or high ambient temperatures.
- The thermal resistance of the TO-220 package is 65°C/W, so consider a heatsink if the power dissipation exceeds 1W.
Layout Considerations:
- Keep the traces between the capacitors and the regulator as short as possible to minimize parasitic inductance.
- Use wide traces for the ground plane to reduce resistance and improve thermal performance.
Power-On Sequence:
- Ensure that the input voltage rises smoothly and does not exceed the maximum input voltage rating.
- Avoid rapid changes in the input voltage to prevent transient issues.
Output Ripple and Noise:
- The LM1117-1.5 has low output ripple and noise, but using additional filtering capacitors can further reduce these effects if necessary.
