Instructions for Use:

  1. Circuit Configuration:

    • Connect the input voltage to the IN pin.
    • Connect the output voltage to the OUT pin.
    • Ground the GND pin.
  2. Capacitors:

    • Place a 1μF ceramic capacitor between the IN pin and ground for input filtering.
    • Place a 1μF ceramic capacitor between the OUT pin and ground for output stability.
  3. Heat Dissipation:

    • Ensure adequate heat sinking if operating at high current or high ambient temperatures.
    • The thermal resistance of the TO-220 package is 65°C/W, so consider a heatsink if the power dissipation exceeds 1W.
  4. Layout Considerations:

    • Keep the traces between the capacitors and the regulator as short as possible to minimize parasitic inductance.
    • Use wide traces for the ground plane to reduce resistance and improve thermal performance.
  5. Power-On Sequence:

    • Ensure that the input voltage rises smoothly and does not exceed the maximum input voltage rating.
    • Avoid rapid changes in the input voltage to prevent transient issues.
  6. Output Ripple and Noise:

    • The LM1117-1.5 has low output ripple and noise, but using additional filtering capacitors can further reduce these effects if necessary.
  7. Storage:

    • Store the device in a dry, cool place to avoid moisture damage.
    • Follow ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) precautions when handling the device to prevent damage.
