Instructions for Using the INA219AIDR

  1. Power Supply:

    • Ensure the supply voltage (VDD) is within the range of 3.0V to 5.5V.
    • Connect the power supply to the VDD and GND pins.
  2. Bus Voltage Measurement:

    • Connect the bus voltage (VBUS) to be measured between the VBUS pin and GND.
    • The maximum bus voltage that can be measured is 36V.
  3. Shunt Voltage Measurement:

    • Connect the shunt resistor in series with the load.
    • Measure the voltage drop across the shunt resistor using the VSHUNT+ and VSHUNT- pins.
    • The maximum shunt voltage that can be measured is ±40mV.
  4. Current Calculation:

    • Calculate the current using the formula: ( I = frac{V_{text}}{R_{text}} ).
    • Ensure the continuous current does not exceed 2000mA when VBUS is 36V and VSHUNT is 40mV.
  5. Configuration and Control:

    • Use the I2C interface to configure the INA219AIDR.
    • Set the appropriate configuration registers for bus voltage, shunt voltage, and conversion time.
    • The default I2C address is 0x40, but it can be changed by connecting the A0 pin to VDD or GND.
  6. Data Conversion:

    • The ADC resolution is 12-bit, and the conversion time ranges from 1.1ms to 5.2ms depending on the configuration.
    • Read the converted values from the appropriate registers.
  7. Power Management:

    • To reduce power consumption, use the shutdown mode by writing to the appropriate register.
    • In active mode, the power consumption is typically 700μW.
    • In shutdown mode, the power consumption is typically 2μW.
  8. Temperature Considerations:

    • Ensure the operating temperature is within the range of -40°C to 85°C.
    • Store the device in temperatures ranging from -65°C to 150°C.

By following these instructions, you can effectively use the INA219AIDR for accurate current and power measurements in your application.
