Instructions:

  1. Power Supply Connection:

    • Connect the input power supply (VIN) to the appropriate pin, ensuring it is within the operating voltage range of 2.9V to 5.5V.
  2. Battery Connection:

    • Connect the battery to the battery terminal (BAT). Ensure the battery is a Li-Ion type as specified.
  3. Charging Current Setting:

    • Set the charging current (ICHG) using an external resistor (RPROG) connected between the PROG pin and GND. The formula to calculate the resistor value is: RPROG = 1000 / ICHG (in A).
  4. Pre-Charge Current Setting:

    • The pre-charge current (IPRECHG) is typically set to 10% of the main charging current (ICHG).
  5. Charge Termination:

    • The charger will terminate the charge cycle when the battery reaches the end-of-charge condition, which can be either a timer-based or C/10-based method.
  6. Thermal Regulation:

    • The device will reduce the charging current if the temperature exceeds the thermal regulation threshold of 125°C to prevent overheating.
  7. Quiescent and Shutdown Current:

    • In normal operation, the quiescent current (IQ) is approximately 15 μA. In shutdown mode, the current (ISD) drops to about 0.1 μA.
  8. Status Indicators:

    • Monitor the status LEDs to determine the charge state of the battery. The LEDs will indicate whether the battery is charging, fully charged, or in a fault condition.
  9. Safety Timer:

    • The safety timer will terminate the charge after 16 hours to prevent overcharging, even if the battery has not reached the end-of-charge condition.
  10. Mounting and Layout:

    • Ensure proper PCB layout with adequate thermal management to maintain optimal performance and reliability. Place the device away from heat sources and ensure good thermal conductivity to the PCB.
  11. Handling and Storage:

    • Store the device in a dry, cool environment and handle with care to avoid static damage. Follow ESD precautions during handling and assembly.
