Instructions for Using the MAX17048G+T10

  1. Power Supply:

    • Connect the battery voltage (VBAT) to the VBAT pin.
    • Ensure the supply voltage is within the range of 2.5V to 5.5V.
  2. Ground Connection:

    • Connect the ground (GND) pin to the system ground.
  3. Communication Interface:

    • Use the I2C or SMBus interface to communicate with the device.
    • Connect the SDA (Data) and SCL (Clock) pins to the corresponding lines on your microcontroller or system.
    • Pull-up resistors (typically 4.7kΩ to 10kΩ) are required on both SDA and SCL lines.
  4. Configuration:

    • Use the I2C/SMBus commands to configure the device settings, such as the battery profile, threshold values, and other parameters.
    • Refer to the device datasheet for specific command codes and register addresses.
  5. State-of-Charge (SOC) Measurement:

    • The device continuously monitors the battery voltage and provides an accurate SOC measurement.
    • Read the SOC value from the appropriate register using the I2C/SMBus interface.
  6. Temperature Compensation:

    • If temperature compensation is required, connect a thermistor or temperature sensor to the appropriate pin and configure the device accordingly.
  7. Shutdown Mode:

    • To put the device into shutdown mode, set the appropriate bit in the control register.
    • In shutdown mode, the supply current drops to approximately 1.5 μA.
  8. Fault Detection:

    • Monitor the status registers for fault conditions such as overvoltage, undervoltage, and overtemperature.
    • Take appropriate actions based on the detected faults.
  9. Package Handling:

    • Handle the TQFN package with care to avoid damage to the pins and the device.
    • Follow proper soldering techniques to ensure reliable connections.
  10. Storage and Operation:

    • Store the device in a dry, cool environment to prevent moisture damage.
    • Operate the device within the specified temperature range (-40°C to 85°C).
