Instructions for Use

  1. Input Connection:

    • Connect the input voltage (V_IN) to the power supply within the specified range of 27V to 58V.
    • Ensure the input capacitor (C_IN) is placed close to the IC to filter out noise and provide stable operation.
  2. Output Configuration:

    • The output voltage (V_OUT) can be adjusted using external resistors R1 and R2 according to the formula: [ V_ = 1.23 left(1 + fracright) ]
    • Choose appropriate resistor values to achieve the desired output voltage within the range of 4.5V to 12V.
  3. Output Capacitor:

    • Connect an output capacitor (C_OUT) to stabilize the output voltage and reduce ripple. A typical value is 10μF to 100μF.
  4. Thermal Management:

    • Ensure adequate heat dissipation by mounting the IC on a heatsink if operating at high loads or in high ambient temperatures.
    • Monitor the junction temperature to stay within the operating range of -40°C to 85°C.
  5. Protection:

    • The IC includes built-in overvoltage, overcurrent, and thermal shutdown protection. However, it is recommended to design the circuit with additional protection components such as fuses and transient voltage suppressors (TVS) for robustness.
  6. Shutdown Mode:

    • To enter shutdown mode, pull the SHDN pin low. The quiescent current will drop to approximately 2.5mA, reducing power consumption.
  7. Layout Considerations:

    • Place the input and output capacitors as close as possible to the IC to minimize parasitic inductance and improve performance.
    • Use wide traces for power and ground connections to reduce resistance and improve heat dissipation.
  8. Testing and Troubleshooting:

    • Verify the input voltage and ensure it is within the specified range.
    • Measure the output voltage to confirm it matches the expected value based on the resistor configuration.
    • Check for any overheating issues and ensure proper cooling.
    • If the IC does not function as expected, check for correct polarity and connections, and ensure all components are functioning properly.
