Instructions for Using 78L15:

  1. Input Voltage:

    • Ensure the input voltage is within the range of 17.3V to 30V. The minimum input voltage should be at least 2.0V higher than the output voltage to maintain regulation.
  2. Output Voltage:

    • The 78L15 provides a fixed output voltage of 15V. No external components are required for voltage setting.
  3. Output Current:

    • The maximum continuous output current is 100mA. Ensure that the load does not exceed this limit to avoid overheating or damage.
  4. Line Regulation:

    • The line regulation is 0.004% per volt, indicating that the output voltage will change by 0.004% for each volt change in the input voltage.
  5. Load Regulation:

    • The load regulation is 0.01% per milliamp, meaning the output voltage will change by 0.01% for each milliamp change in the load current.
  6. Dropout Voltage:

    • The dropout voltage is typically 2.0V. This is the minimum difference between the input and output voltages required to maintain regulation.
  7. Quiescent Current:

    • The quiescent current is typically 8mA. This is the current consumed by the regulator when no load is applied.
  8. Ripple Rejection:

    • The ripple rejection is 60dB, which means the regulator can effectively reduce input ripple by 60dB at the output.
  9. Operating Temperature:

    • The operating temperature range is from -40°C to 125°C. Ensure the ambient temperature is within this range to prevent thermal shutdown.
  10. Storage Temperature:

    • The storage temperature range is from -65°C to 150°C. Store the device in a dry environment within this temperature range to prevent damage.
  11. Heat Dissipation:

    • For high current applications, ensure proper heat dissipation. Use a heatsink if necessary to keep the junction temperature below the maximum rating.
  12. Capacitors:

    • While not strictly necessary, adding a 0.33μF ceramic capacitor on the input and a 0.1μF ceramic capacitor on the output can improve stability and transient response.
  13. PCB Layout:

    • Keep the input and output capacitors as close as possible to the regulator to minimize noise and improve performance.
  14. Polarity:

    • Ensure correct polarity when connecting the input and output. Reversing the polarity can damage the regulator.
