Instructions for Using UC3843BNG
Power Supply Connection:
- Connect the Vcc pin to the power supply.
- Ensure the supply voltage is within the range of 10.0V to 35.0V.
- Use a bypass capacitor (typically 0.1μF) between Vcc and ground to filter out noise.
Start-Up and Operating Current:
- The start-up current is typically 0.5mA to 1.0mA.
- The operating current is typically 2.0mA to 3.5mA.
Reference Voltage:
- The reference voltage (Vref) is fixed at 5.0V and is used as a stable reference for the error amplifier.
Error Amplifier:
- The error amplifier transconductance (Gm) is typically 120 to 140 μS.
- Connect the inverting input (pin 2) to the feedback network and the non-inverting input (pin 3) to the reference voltage.
Oscillator Configuration:
- Set the oscillator frequency by connecting an external resistor (RT) and capacitor (CT) between pins 6 and 7.
- The frequency range is from 100kHz to 500kHz.
Maximum Duty Cycle:
- The maximum duty cycle is limited to 96%.
Slope Compensation:
- Slope compensation can be added to improve stability in high-duty cycle applications.
- Connect an external resistor (Rslope) to pin 4 to set the slope compensation current.
Soft-Start:
- Implement soft-start by connecting a capacitor (Css) to pin 8.
- The soft-start time can be adjusted by the value of Css, typically up to 1.0ms.
Thermal Shutdown:
- The device will automatically shut down if the temperature exceeds 160°C to 170°C to prevent damage.
Storage Temperature:
- Store the device in an environment with temperatures ranging from -40°C to 125°C.
Layout Considerations:
- Keep all high-frequency and high-current paths short and direct to minimize noise and interference.
- Use a ground plane to provide a low-impedance return path for all signals.
Testing and Debugging:
- Use an oscilloscope to monitor key signals such as the oscillator waveform, error amplifier output, and PWM signal.
- Check for proper startup and operation by verifying the output voltage and current.
By following these instructions, you can ensure the proper and efficient operation of the UC3843BNG in your power supply or converter design.
