Instructions for Use:

  1. Input Voltage:

    • Ensure the input voltage is within the range of 20V to 35V to avoid damage or improper operation.
  2. Output Voltage:

    • The output voltage is regulated to 18V. Verify that this matches your application requirements.
  3. Output Current:

    • The device can provide up to 1.5A continuously. Ensure that the load does not exceed this limit to prevent overheating or failure.
  4. Line Regulation:

    • The output voltage changes by less than 0.04% for input voltage variations from 20V to 35V.
  5. Load Regulation:

    • The output voltage changes by less than 0.1% for load current variations from 0 to 1.5A.
  6. Dropout Voltage:

    • At full load (1.5A), the dropout voltage is 2.5V. Ensure that the input voltage is at least 20.5V to maintain regulation.
  7. Quiescent Current:

    • The quiescent current is typically 5mA at 25V input with no load. This should be considered in low-power applications.
  8. Thermal Management:

    • The thermal resistance (θJA) is 65°C/W for the TO-220 package. Use appropriate heatsinking if the device will operate near its maximum power dissipation.
  9. Operating Temperature:

    • The junction temperature should be kept between -40°C and 125°C to ensure reliable operation.
  10. Storage Temperature:

    • Store the device between -65°C and 150°C to prevent damage.
  11. Mounting:

    • Ensure proper mounting and soldering techniques to avoid mechanical stress and thermal issues.
  12. Capacitors:

    • Use input and output capacitors as recommended to stabilize the regulator and filter noise. Typically, a 0.33μF ceramic capacitor on the input and a 0.1μF ceramic capacitor on the output are sufficient.
  13. PCB Layout:

    • Keep the input and output leads short to minimize noise and improve stability.
  14. Safety:

    • Always follow safety guidelines when handling and testing high-voltage circuits.
