Instructions for Using L7805CV TO220

  1. Circuit Connection:

    • Input (VIN): Connect the positive terminal of the input voltage to the "IN" pin.
    • Output (VOUT): Connect the load or circuit requiring regulated 5V to the "OUT" pin.
    • Ground (GND): Connect the negative terminal of the input voltage and the ground of the load to the "GND" pin.
  2. Capacitors:

    • Input Capacitor: Place a 0.33 μF ceramic capacitor between the "IN" pin and "GND" as close as possible to the regulator to filter out high-frequency noise.
    • Output Capacitor: Place a 0.1 μF ceramic capacitor between the "OUT" pin and "GND" to stabilize the output voltage and improve transient response.
  3. Heat Sink:

    • If the regulator is expected to dissipate more than 1W, consider using a heat sink to prevent overheating. The thermal resistance from the junction to the case (RθJC) is 5°C/W, so a heat sink can significantly reduce the temperature rise.
  4. Power Dissipation:

    • Calculate the power dissipation (Pd) using the formula: Pd = (VIN - VOUT) * IOUT.
    • Ensure that the power dissipation does not exceed the maximum allowable value for the package, which is typically around 15W for the TO-220 package with a heat sink.
  5. Operating Conditions:

    • Ensure the input voltage is within the specified range (7V to 35V).
    • Do not exceed the maximum output current of 1.5A.
    • Operate the device within the recommended temperature range (-40°C to 125°C).
  6. Storage:

    • Store the device in a dry environment within the temperature range of -65°C to 150°C.
  7. Handling:

    • Handle the device with care to avoid damage to the pins and the internal components.
    • Use appropriate ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protection when handling the device to prevent damage from static electricity.
