Instructions for Use:

  1. Input Voltage (VIN):

    • Ensure the input voltage is within the range of 4.5V to 36V.
    • Do not exceed the maximum input voltage to avoid damage to the device.
  2. Output Voltage (VOUT):

    • The output voltage can be adjusted between 1.23V and 18V.
    • Use external resistors to set the desired output voltage according to the formula provided in the datasheet.
  3. Output Current (IOUT):

    • The typical output current is 1.5A, with a maximum of 3A.
    • Ensure the load does not exceed the maximum output current to prevent overheating or damage.
  4. Quiescent Current (IQ):

    • The quiescent current is typically 20mA and can reach up to 50mA.
    • This current is drawn by the regulator even when there is no load.
  5. Dropout Voltage (VDROPOUT):

    • The dropout voltage is typically 0.8V and can reach up to 1.5V.
    • Ensure the input voltage is at least this much higher than the output voltage to maintain regulation.
  6. Operating Temperature (TOPR):

    • The operating temperature range is from -40°C to 125°C.
    • Avoid operating the device outside this range to ensure reliable performance.
  7. Storage Temperature (TSTG):

    • The storage temperature range is from -65°C to 150°C.
    • Store the device in a dry environment to prevent moisture damage.
  8. Thermal Resistance (θJA):

    • The thermal resistance is typically 45°C/W.
    • Use a heatsink if the device will operate at high power levels to improve heat dissipation.
  9. PCB Layout:

    • Place the input and output capacitors close to the regulator to minimize noise and improve stability.
    • Use wide traces for the input and output paths to reduce resistance and inductance.
  10. Capacitors:

    • Use ceramic capacitors for the input and output to ensure stability and low ESR.
    • Recommended values are 10μF for the input and 10μF for the output.
  11. Protection:

    • The device includes overcurrent and thermal protection.
    • In case of overcurrent, the output will be shut down until the condition is resolved.
    • If the device exceeds its thermal limit, it will shut down to prevent damage.
  12. Testing:

    • Before finalizing the design, test the regulator under various conditions to ensure it meets the required specifications.
    • Monitor the output voltage and current to ensure stability and proper operation.
