Instructions for Use

  1. Power Supply Connection:

    • Connect the Vcc pin to a 5.0V power supply.
    • Connect the GND pin to the ground of the power supply.
  2. Data Line Connection:

    • Connect the DIN (Data In) pin to the data output of your microcontroller or control device.
    • Connect the DOUT (Data Out) pin to the DIN pin of the next LPD8806S in the chain if multiple devices are used.
  3. Clock Line Connection:

    • Connect the CI (Clock In) pin to the clock output of your microcontroller or control device.
    • Connect the CO (Clock Out) pin to the CI pin of the next LPD8806S in the chain if multiple devices are used.
  4. RGB LED Connections:

    • Connect the R, G, and B pins to the corresponding red, green, and blue LEDs respectively.
  5. Programming:

    • Use a microcontroller or control device to send data to the LPD8806S via the DIN and CI pins.
    • Each LPD8806S can control one RGB LED. The data sent includes the brightness levels for the red, green, and blue LEDs.
    • The data format is typically 24 bits per LED (8 bits for each color).
  6. Daisy Chaining:

    • To control multiple LEDs, daisy chain the LPD8806S devices by connecting the DOUT and CO pins of one device to the DIN and CI pins of the next device.
  7. Power Considerations:

    • Ensure that the power supply can provide sufficient current to all connected LEDs. Each LPD8806S can drive up to 18.5mA per channel.
    • Use appropriate decoupling capacitors (e.g., 100nF and 10uF) near the Vcc and GND pins to filter out noise and stabilize the power supply.
  8. ESD Precautions:

    • Handle the LPD8806S with care to avoid damage from electrostatic discharge.
    • Use ESD-safe tools and work surfaces when handling the device.

By following these instructions, you can effectively use the LPD8806S to control RGB LEDs in various applications.
