Instructions for Use

  1. Input Capacitor (CIN):

    • Place a 10 μF tantalum or ceramic capacitor close to the input pin to ensure stable operation.
    • For better transient response, a 0.1 μF ceramic capacitor can be added in parallel.
  2. Output Capacitor (COUT):

    • Use a 100 μF electrolytic or tantalum capacitor for the output to maintain stability.
    • For improved performance, a 10 μF ceramic capacitor can be added in parallel.
  3. Feedback Resistor Network:

    • The output voltage is set using a feedback resistor network. The formula to calculate the output voltage is: [ V_ = 1.23 left(1 + fracright) ]
    • Choose R1 and R2 such that the output voltage falls within the specified range.
  4. Inductor Selection:

    • Select an inductor with a value between 10 μH and 100 μH.
    • Ensure the inductor can handle the maximum current without saturating.
  5. PCB Layout:

    • Keep the ground plane solid and wide to minimize noise.
    • Place decoupling capacitors as close as possible to the IC pins.
    • Use short and wide traces for high current paths.
  6. Thermal Considerations:

    • Ensure adequate heat dissipation by providing a good thermal path to the PCB.
    • If operating at high currents, consider using a heatsink.
  7. Overvoltage Protection:

    • Add a Zener diode across the output to protect against overvoltage conditions.
  8. Short-Circuit Protection:

    • The LM2594MX-ADJ/NOPB has built-in short-circuit protection, but external fuses may be added for additional safety.
  9. Start-Up Time:

    • The start-up time is typically around 1 ms. Ensure that the input voltage rises slowly to avoid inrush current issues.
  10. Storage and Handling:

    • Store the device in a dry environment to prevent moisture damage.
    • Handle with care to avoid static discharge, which can damage the IC.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure optimal performance and reliability of the LM2594MX-ADJ/NOPB in your application.
