Instructions for Using AN7815:
Input Voltage (VIN):
- Ensure the input voltage is within the specified range of 7V to 20V.
- Use appropriate input capacitors to filter out noise and ensure stable operation.
Output Voltage (VOUT):
- The output voltage can be adjusted using external resistors. Use the formula: [ V_ = 1.25 left(1 + fracright) ]
- Choose R1 and R2 values to achieve the desired output voltage.
Output Current (IOUT):
- The maximum continuous output current is 1.5A. Ensure the load does not exceed this limit to avoid overheating or damage.
Dropout Voltage (VDROPOUT):
- The typical dropout voltage is 1.2V at 1.5A. Ensure the input voltage is at least 1.2V higher than the output voltage to maintain regulation.
Quiescent Current (IQ):
- The quiescent current is typically 5mA. This is the current consumed by the regulator when no load is applied.
Line Regulation:
- The line regulation is 0.01% per volt, indicating the change in output voltage with respect to changes in input voltage.
Load Regulation:
- The load regulation is 0.01% per milliamp, indicating the change in output voltage with respect to changes in load current.
Ripple Rejection:
- The ripple rejection is 60dB at 1kHz, which means the regulator can effectively reduce input ripple to the output.
Operating Temperature (TOPR):
- The operating temperature range is from -40°C to 125°C. Ensure the device is used within this range to avoid thermal stress.
Storage Temperature (TSTG):
- The storage temperature range is from -65°C to 150°C. Store the device in a suitable environment to prevent damage.
PCB Layout Considerations:
- Place the input and output capacitors as close as possible to the regulator to minimize inductive effects and improve stability.
- Use a heatsink if the device will operate at high currents or in high ambient temperatures to dissipate heat effectively.
Protection Features:
- The AN7815 includes internal short-circuit and thermal overload protection. However, it is recommended to use external fuses and diodes for additional safety.
By following these guidelines, you can ensure reliable and efficient operation of the AN7815 voltage regulator.
